UN Trust Fund to End Violence against Women awarded grants worth close to USD 13 million to 33 organizations responded to the 2015 Call for Proposals

Bangkok, Thailand - The UN Trust Fund to End Violence against Women is a multilateral grant-making mechanism working to fulfil the right of every woman and girl to live a life free of violence. Administered by UN Women on behalf of the UN system, the UN Trust Fund supports multi-year innovative and practical approaches that contribute to ending violence against women and girls in all its forms and in all contexts.
Thirty-three new grants were awarded in the UN Trust Fund’s grant-making in 2015. These will support initiatives in more than 29 countries and territories that respond to the three priority areas identified by the Fund as of strategic importance in addressing violence against women and girls: prevention; expanding survivors’ access to support services; and strengthening the implementation of laws, policies and action plans aimed at eliminating violence.
In Asia and the Pacific, seven grants were awarded worth US$ 2.83 million to six Civil Society Organizations and a government entity in six countries for the implementation in 2016 – 2018.
The UN Trust Fund is currently funded 19 active programmes in 14 countries to address violence against women and girls in Asia and the Pacific, representing 26 per cent of its global portfolio as of November 2015.
